Hobby Master 1-72 Air Power
HA19007 McDonnell Douglas RF-4E Phantom II 7499 "The end of this film", 348 TRS,
Hellenic Air Force, 2017
The McDonnell Douglas F-4 was the main multipurpose aircraft for the US Military for
20 years. The F-4E variant was an improved version of the C/D with an elongated
nose and compact radar. These two things made it possible to install a 20mm M61A1
6 barrel 640 round Vulcan gun pod in the nose. The F-4E was the most produced
variant with 1387 aircraft being made over its 12 year production period. The “E”
also equipped more air forces than any other variant of the Phantom II.
On Friday May 5, 2017 the Hellenic Air Force (HAF) 348th Tactical reconnaissance Squadron
was officially disbanded at Larissa AB. To mark the occasion RF-4E 7499 was given a special
paint scheme It had “The End Of The Film” in English printed on the starboard side of the
fuselage and Greek on the port side; the end of using film, giving way to digital. This aircraft was
former USAF 69-7499 , ex German 35+52 that had been the Aufklarungsgeschwader 52
"Black Panther” in 1994.
