Hobby Master 1/56 COMBAT SERIES INFRARED HR0102 - Tiger I Early Production, No.213 'Albert Kerscher'
|

Albert Kerscher:
Albert Kerscher was best known for his actions at Malinava where along with Otto Carius
the two Tiger Is attacked a Soviet advance tank group. Since there was only one main
street the two decided that only their tanks would attack keeping six Tigers in reserve.
During the attack Kerscher noticed two T-34s beginning to rotate their turrets so he fired
destroying both. During the twenty-minute encounter Kerscher and Carius managed to
destroy seventeen T-34s and JS-1s. Kerscher scored 100+ kills, ranked twelfth in the
tank ace list and was awarded the Knight’s Cross 10/23/1944.
The Tiger I:
With approximately 200 early Tiger Is being produced before upgrading to the mid
production version, the legendary fear factor of these machines was born. The Allies had
nothing like the Tiger I on the battlefield and it reigned supreme for the first part of WWII.
Thick frontal and side armor made it almost impossible to destroy and there were many
accounts of a Tiger being hit 10 times and it still fought on. It wasn’t until the weakness of
Tiger’s light rear armor was discovered that it became less of a threat and could be dealt
with.
