In July 1978 the European manufacturer Airbus began work on their second aircraft, the
first aircraft the A300. The first flight of the A310 took place on April 3, 1982 with the first
service flight in April 1983 with Lufthansa. In 1985 the A310-300 production began as a
longer range version of the A310-200 and is capable of carrying an additional 15,430
pounds of fuel in its tail-plane. The last A310 was delivered in June 1998.

Airbus A310-324 MSN 455 made its maiden flight on February 11, 1988 and was delivered
to Pan Am Airways as "Clipper Morning Star" on April 28, 1988 as N818PA. In November
1991 N818PA was sold to Delta Airlines who kept the N818PA registration. On June 16,
1994 the aircraft sold to Air Club International as C-GCIT. When ACI shut down in 1996
the aircraft went into receivership until June 1997 when Air Plus Comet (later Air Comet)
took possession and registered it as EC-GOT. In May 2009 MSN 455 was delivered for
scrapping.
